Keiko Minami Spring Exhibition – Beyond the Tree – 17 March 2020 (Tue.) – 26 July 2020 (Sun.)

Lines of Keiko Minami’s copper-plate prints recall stories to us. Soft colors are gathered out from some emotions lying in her mind and filling the lines, thus producing her unique pictures filled with various feelings. In her world of works created in such a way, the motif of small bird and fish, wrapped in gentleness, are looking at further beyond in the picture.

Copper-plate engraver Keiko Minami (1911-2004) was born in Toyama Prefecture, and she tried painting and poetry since high school time. Following her encounter with Yozo Hamaguchi, a copper-plate artist who later represented the 20th century, she traveled to France in 1953, and continued to create works in the world of copper-plate engraving. Her production base was in Paris and in San Francisco, but her works were always close to us through the covers of books and UNICEF cards. In recent years new charms of her works continue to be discovered and are gaining popularity among people all over the world, such as her work was used for the cover of high school Japanese language textbook.

In this exhibition, approximately 60 works with the theme of spring are exhibited, treasuring the delicate lines and colors expressing the tranquil silence itself. In addition, 10 works of Yozo Hamaguchi are also introduced. Please take time and enjoy various works exhibited in the brightness of spring.
